Powderfinger Reunion Tour Sparks Ticket Frenzy as Band Plans More Shows
Overwhelming presale demand has left limited tickets for Monday’s general sale, with Bernard Fanning promising fans the band is working on additional dates for its blockbuster 2027 Australian tour.
Powderfinger’s long-awaited return to the stage is shaping up as one of the biggest Australian music events of 2027, with extraordinary demand for tickets prompting the band to begin planning additional concerts.
Just a week after announcing their reunion tour, the Brisbane rock legends have revealed that presales have been so overwhelming that only limited tickets remain for the general public on-sale on Monday, October 19.
All 26 currently announced shows are expected to sell out, with the band and promoters now working to accommodate the enormous demand.
For a group whose songs have become part of Australia’s musical DNA, the response has been nothing short of remarkable.
From “My Happiness” and “These Days” to “Sunsets”, “On My Mind” and “(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind”, Powderfinger’s catalogue has provided the soundtrack to countless Australian lives. Now, the prospect of hearing those songs performed live again has sent fans scrambling for tickets.
Frontman Bernard Fanning admitted the reaction had taken the band by surprise.
“Ok. That was a pretty weird week,” Fanning said on behalf of Powderfinger.
“We are truly humbled and overwhelmed by the response to the shows we announced. Thank you so much to everyone that sat through the stress of trying to get tickets.”
With thousands of fans still hoping to secure their place at what promises to be one of the country’s biggest musical reunions, Fanning confirmed that the band is determined to expand the tour.
“We want you all to know that we understand that there is still a huge appetite for people to come and be a part of the tour so we are working on putting more shows together.
“We want everyone to have an opportunity to come but it will take a couple of weeks to string it all together. Please be patient. We hear you. Lots of love to you all. Choose Kindness.”
Promoters have assured fans that additional concerts will be added, although specific dates and venues are yet to be confirmed.
The scale of the existing tour is already extraordinary.
Powderfinger will kick off their Australian run with six concerts at Brisbane Showgrounds in September 2027, before heading north for two shows at Cairns’ Cazalys Stadium.
The band will then play three nights at Wellington Square in Perth, followed by six concerts at Sydney’s Domain.
Two Adelaide shows at Ellis Park will precede a massive seven-night run at Melbourne Park Oval, bringing the currently announced tour to a close on November 1.
The reunion also marks a significant moment for a band that has remained one of Australia’s most beloved rock acts long after stepping away from the stage.
Formed in Brisbane, Powderfinger became one of the defining Australian groups of the 1990s and 2000s, releasing a string of hugely successful albums including Internationalist, Odyssey Number Five, Vulture Street and Dream Days at the Hotel Existence.
Their ability to combine arena-sized rock songs with emotional depth and distinctly Australian storytelling helped establish a connection with audiences that has endured across generations.
That connection is now translating into extraordinary ticket demand.
Beyond the music, Powderfinger have also announced a partnership with Mission Australia, with the tour set to raise funds and awareness for people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.
The band says the cause is particularly close to their hearts, recognising the complex circumstances that can contribute to homelessness, including family violence, mental health challenges and financial hardship.
Further details about the partnership and opportunities for fans to contribute will be announced in the coming months.
In the meantime, fans can read an exclusive interview with all five members of Powderfinger in the current edition of The Big Issue, available through vendors nationally.
With more dates on the way and the prospect of tens of thousands of Australians singing along to some of the country’s most enduring rock anthems, Powderfinger’s return is rapidly becoming something bigger than a conventional reunion tour.
It’s a reminder of just how deeply this band’s music remains embedded in the Australian consciousness.
And judging by the response so far, the biggest singalong of 2027 is only getting started.
